University of Colorado at Boulder

The Program

Dr. Cech and Dr. Leinwand will lead the new Institute.  New faculty are being hired by a novel process that requires interdepartmental cooperation and ensures that successful candidates will work across departmental boundaries.   Free of the traditional constraints of a silo-based university research model, CIMB teams will create new scientific and education paradigms.   Undergraduate and graduate students will be welcome participants in this exciting environment.  The new building is designed to include students in every aspect of research and discovery.   Not only will science students be welcome, but business students who are learning how to transfer technologies into the marketplace will be an essential part of the new education paradigm.
CIMB will dedicate resources and leadership to integrating its people and programs with the community.   A strong commercialization focus will enable faculty and the bioscience industry to explore new ways to work together.  An aggressive outreach program to the K-12 education community will result in new approaches to teaching science, supporting the recruitment and retention of science teachers, and new career exploration programs.   CIMB will house infrastructure and technology that allows faculty and students to reach out to the global science community and collaborate.  The culture of collaboration will extend beyond the walls of the new facility to the best and brightest minds of the world.  CIMB will be host to visiting scholars from around the world, who will bring professional and cultural enrichment to students, faculty, and entrepreneurs in Colorado.
